4 Tips for your first hgf class
So, you’ve booked your first Higher Ground Fitness class! 🎉 You’re stepping into 45 minutes of full‑body work that blends the best of Pilates, cardio, and weight training into one powerful, Athletic Pilates ™ experience.
HGF’s method is intentional, high‑energy, and slow-paced. Between the proprietary machines, spring‑based resistance, and unique HGF movement names, your first class can feel a lot. Here’s how to set yourself up for success and get the most out of your very first escape.
1. Arrive Early (Trust Us)
We recommend arriving at least 10 minutes before class. This gives you time to:
Sign your waiver if you haven’t yet
Meet your instructor
Get familiar with our HGF machine
Share any prior injuries, limitations, or concerns with your instructor
Those few extra minutes allow your instructor to better support you and help you feel ready before the music turns up, and the work begins.
2. Grip Socks Are Required
For safety and sanitation, grip socks are required on all HGF machines. If you don’t have a pair, don’t stress. We carry grip socks for purchase at all of our studio locations. There is nothing better than that new grip sock feeling.
3. Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable
Our classes move quickly with dynamic transitions and unique-to-HGF move names. Don’t worry about memorizing everything on day one.
Instead:
Watch the people around you. It feels weird, but everyone has day one, and everyone in class with you started there, too!
Listen closely to your instructors' cues. Your instructor is truly walking you through class from start to finish.
Focus on showing up over getting it perfect. Showing up is the hard part. Once you’re on a machine, there’s already something to clap for.
4. Your Instructor Is Here to Help
Our instructors are here to guide you through every class. They can offer modifications to scale movements back, as well as options to dial up the intensity when you’re ready for it.
If something doesn’t feel right or you need support, let us know! We’ve got you.
Your first HGF class is just the beginning. Come early, stay curious, trust the process, and lean into the energy of the room.
We’ll take care of the rest.
